youve seen him on the side of my blog, i mightve mentioned him before, but today, he FINALLY makes his cab confessional debut..(sidebar, have you all noticed that the cab confessionals have been mostly guys? COME ON LADIES!) His name is Michael Griffith, but those of us who are close to him know him by something else, Beezie. B and I have worked fashion shoes together, gone to parties together, chilled at my apartment..hes like the cool big brother i never had and i love him to death, so youll CERTAINLY see him on here again, hopefully more in depth, but for today, lets just take a peek at the musical genius that he is.

Howie

be doin that?

airwaves:vogue - madonna
"what are you lookin at?"
(because if there's anyone who will appreciate today's airwaves, it would be howie:))

i had been meaning to do a feature on howie lee robinson for the loooongest, and five of my favorite guys was the PERFECT opportunity. I met howie freshman year and fell in LOVE with him..hes one of THEE funniest people ive ever met, adn he loves me regardless of my flaws, i could say the same thing for him but obviously, he has none, so lets all sit back in a wodner and enjoy my doll's cab confessionals so that you can see what i have to do with on a regular basis..the man is a MESS yall. but i love him:) and im luckly to have him

They call me...
- Howie (unless you grew up with me, in which case you probably call me by the most country of all nicknames: Brother.)

I like (doing, making, being)..
- TROUBLE.
(haha clever clever..)

My favorite t-shirt is...
- The brown Xavier University crewneck that my homegirl from high school gave me about a month before Katrina. I painted our apartment in it and wore it to school with the stains, and people thought I had escaped the levees with nothin but the shirt on my back. I ate free in Spelman's Grille for a week.
(that is SOO like you)

The shoes I'll never throw away are...
- The absolutely trashed Gola wingtip sneakers I stole from Irwin when he moved out. I love them aaaalmost as much as I love him.
(i love irwin tooo!!!)

I'd kill for...
- ...a lifetime supply...

The song that makes me drive wreckless is...
- ANYTHING BY GUCCI!!!!
(and i feel like youre serious lol)

If I were a tv show, I would be...
- Death Note or Cowboy Bebop, or 24. ...or Ghostwriter.

Last time I went to the movies I saw...
- Doubt. Incredible! That makes me wonder if I'm behind on my new releases though... :-/

If I saw ...... I would probably.....
- Rei Kawakubo......kidnap her. I'd release her after a year or 2,184 conversations though, whichever comes first.

My first cell phone was a....
- Nokia whatever-it-is, those OLD candy bar types with the first Snake. ::sigh:: History repeats itself. Guess what I have now?

If could've chosen my name it probably would have been....
- Francois, or somethin superheroey, like Jolt.

I laughed so hard at.....that I peed my pants
- THE OLD LADY WHO GOT HIT BY THE BUS IN THE WAYANS BROTHERS' OPENING SEQUENCE!! I'm talkin bout rollin on the floor each and every time. My mom thought I was a sick, sick person.

My first love was...
- Art. We're still together and we're expecting.

I used to have ...... posters on my wall
- Nope. I was never the poster type. My mom taught us to stew in our own creativity, so we would paint and paste and chew and cut everything into anything and she'd cover entire walls with our work.

The first time I kissed a girl I was....
- Five. I was sittin at the computers in my kindergarten class, and my mom was takin too long to pick me up so I decided to try a lil somethin I had seen on TV...
(pimpin since been pimpin since been pimpin..)

I'm terrified of.... because....
- Having to choose. I hate getting "settled."

I really miss.....
- ::sigh:: I've gotten numb to loss. There are people who had pivotal roles in my life and they're gone now. Whether by choice or not, whether their absence is permanent or not, they're gone. It's happened so much that I can't even remember when I got used to it. Still, I'm happy when certain people come to town and certain others hit me up to hang out. Feels good.

A perfect dinner would be....
- Anything my mama cooked, with whoever I love at the moment.

If Prince and Michael Jackson had a sing off....would win
- THE PURPLE ONE!!!!
(AGREED)

Today I wore......
- A "ROCK ME SEXY JESUS" tee, straight leg Levi's, a hunting jacket and a Krystal staff hat I stole from my cousin. I wore my shell toe Adidas (Adidae? Adidi?) only because Irwin's Golas were wet from yesterday.
(about hamlet 2...the WORST!!)

......reminds me of summer
- Freaknik music, girls with midriff-bearing tops and door knockers, pit bulls, the smell of charcoal, candy paint, and my Summer Love playlist: think Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Lisa Stansfield, Kish Mauve, A Flock of Seagulls, etc.

I'd rather have been born....
- In ancient Egypt or 1950s New York.

.....is my hero because...
- Batman. He's crazy, he's unapologetic, and dammit, he's just a man.

My favorite scent is.....
- Mont Blanc Presence (winter) or The Art of Shaving Sandalwood (summer)

Fancy bread, is it in the heart or in the head?
- The cow jumped over the moon!

If I gave a hood shoutout it would be to....
- All my people on dat Westside, and everybody pushin to get dis paper!!

To the future I say.....
-Ready or not, here I come. I promise we'll be gooood friends.

To the past I said.....
-I know you'll miss me, but this is goodbye forever.

To the masses I say.....
- Stay with me and I will bless you.

To myself I say....
- Let's go. You trust me, don't you?

oh howie...you sly dog!

Its Criss

without the Cross.

airwaves: relax yourself - criss ruler & jay greedy
"girls write the word 'pimp' on my visitors tag.."
(sampled from my faaavorite tribe song of all time)

most people dont know that i have a love/hate relationship with hip-hop. when i was younger thats all i would listen to; tribe, slick rick, the furious five, afrika bambaataa...all i needed were my ehadphones and my ipod and i was in a different timezone...now its totally different, all the hip hop on my ipod is late 80s early 90s, the rest is electro pop, 90S RnB, worldly stuff, gospel, and otis redding. But even though i feel like rap music is just TRASH right now, i have hope for the future. Im really on this underground mixtapes, randrom rappers who hop on people's songs, and just random stuff i steal off of my friends' ipods. There's so much happening on this new music scene and even though i dont necessarily want to be a part of it, i DO want to know what's going on and if there's anything worth listening to and doggoneit. i think i found it in Chicago. luckillly, i have friends over there so that can keep me udpated on the underground, so last fall i recently became addicted to the entire chicago culture, the music, the clothes, the people..the list goes on, and like yesterday when i featured Jay Greedy, today im featuring another one of my favorite rappers from the city of wind. CRISS RULER. Criss and Greedy hopped on the Electric Relaxation track from tribe and the result was magic, its currently on repeat on my ipod and when you hear it, itll probably be on yours. I pulled Criss to do a cab confessional and this was the outcome, you have to love people's responses, tehy can be incredibly witty, so he took a break from talkign in riddles(as the chicagoans seem to do) and gave me upfront answers, and darnit..i appreciate it. so one last shout out to the Chicago music scene today, but be sure to check out Zip's mysapce riiight HERE. i cant wait to hear whats next.

long live the

airwaves: lettin' go- janelle monae
"we dont need you j..you daydream to much, well man im glad yall let me go.."
(this song ALWAYS puts me in an excellent mood)

so when i say i know the most WONDERFUL people on the face of the earth, i TRULY mean it. This final edition of Cab Confessionals season 1 (lol) is going to be rounded out by the love of my LIFE..Chris McMullen aka Mr.Socially Active, but i prefer to call him "King Chris". I met this guy when i was 19 years old..and what i loved most was he had so much soul...but seriously though, me and KC were meant to be friends, we had a bunch of mutual friends and for some reason they started calling us the King and Queen of the Scene even though we had never officially met(facebook forges such strange virtual friendships but hey, what are you gonna do?) but by that time, Chris had already moved back to LA and it seemed all was lost until Morehouse's 08 graduation when he came back to watch the rest of the "Superfriends" graduate and Marchie made it happen! We all met at little five points for a shopping trip and then had lunch at the Vortex, and the rest was history. we had an immediate bond and still share a wonderful friendship to this day. i love that man unconditionally,(i still think he's oblivious to the fact that ive always had a MAJOR crush on him) and after reading more about him (because youll see him on here often) im sure you'll fall in love with him too. unless youre a straight male..then you can simply...admire his style. thats all ill allow. Ha. but on a serious note, check on my doll's blog, its AMAZING when he updates it, and definitely one of my daily crack addictions..he cant help the fact that he's just so Socially Active

Who are your top 3 influences fashionwise?
I know it sounds cliche, but I have to say Kanye first and foremost. He changed everything for young African-American males. I was a senior in high school when I first learned about him. Dude changed my outlook on personal style. Next, my dad circa the 80s. My dad can't dress for sh-- now, but I remember playing his clothes as a kid. He had the best tweed blazers, cologne, dress shoes and jewelry. That laid the foundation for my classic sense of style. Lastly, the lack of competition amongst my peers in L.A. Black men here are afraid to take risks. They're boring. They make me work harder and relish in being an individual. But they also make it too easy...

How about musically?
I'm influenced by everything. Right now, I'm loving Jay Electronica, Wale and Kid Cudi. Coldplay and Radiohead are also killing the game right now. And of course, there's always 80s pop. *sigh*
(yessss 80s pop!! my favorite!!)

Favorite place to shop locally?
Goodwill and Discount Thrift near my house. Santee Alley in DTLA is also a great place. And Melrose is never a disappointment.
(when kc came to visit atlanta a few years ago we both went DUMB in Rag O Rama..he even bought be a tshirt that i still wear:))

Shoes you're wearing right now
My 7 year old Nike Blazers I got for $20 in high school. Love em!

Bracelet or watch?
Watch in the Winter.
Bracelet in the summer.

Necklace or scarf?
Scarf. All day!

Classic Rock or Modern pop?
Classic Rock. Is that even a real question? Modern pop can suck it easy!

Dreamjob?
Check on me in about 10 years. Actions speak louder than words. I'll be the one sitting next to Ms. Wintour.

Last movie you watched
'I Love You, Man.' It was great!

Favorite blog(s)/websites to browse...
Kanye's blog, ridesallyride(of course), simplestformofanelle.blogspot.com, LateBoots, The Sartorialist, WWD, Men.Style.com, YBF, ConcreteLoop, and Selectism.

Song stuck in your head right now?
The second half of "Yes" by Coldplay. That song does something for my spirit.

If you could have a comeback album from any artist...who would it be?
Truthfully, no one. I feel like if they're not making music now, they shouldn't be. I'm just getting ready for the next generation of hip-hop artists to emerge full-force.

The first concert you ever went to
Kanye had a concert at Earthlink Live in ATL for $20 when hardly no one knew who he was my freshman year. John Legend and GLC were there too. It was hands down the best concert I've been to in my life. That includes Glow in the Dark.

The dumbest thing you've ever done
"Being practical" and tricking myself into thinking that I could do corporate America...

I see the person youve grown to be, but not who you were before..what was it that changed your life to get where you are now?
The most significant experience I've had to date is attending Morehouse College. The experience forever changed my life.It taught me so much about myself. It taught me how to be a man. It made me who I am. I made lifelong friends who are more like my family.

Go ahead...give a few shout outs
Misch, Lovey, Queeny, "Baby," my Phrat, my Superfriends, John and Ant. That's about it...

Finally....last famous words
It think Sanatra put it best. "I did it my way."

(this picture was taken after the FIRST time we met, we were already so comfortable
with one another, man, i really do have some of the GREATEST friends)

Love You Chris!
ciao, the Queen of the Scene...sal.

Kash at?

airwaves: the beach from alfred hitchcock's Vertigo
(because its been a looong day and i need some classical for relaxation)

The Cab Confessionals Continueeeee!!!! Hey KASH PHIFE! Make sure to visit her blog...HERE!

Who are your top 3 influences fashionwise?
Kanye West, Rihanna & Fonzworth Bentley

How about musically?
Beyonce influences me to be on top of my game and never let my mind become cluttered with bullsh--. She's the epitome of how women of color should be. Jay-z because he shows me that my hustle can go beyond working in retail. I learned a lot through that American Gangster album. But... Blueprint was the best. And last but not least Lupe Fiasco. He shows me that the mind is very much endless in thought. My imagination can stretch beyond blogging and writing out thoughts through poetry. He lets me know I can aspire to be... myself and be cool with it.

Favorite place to shop locally?
Shop Gentei and Up Against the Wall. Shop Gentei for the custom sneakers and cool skateboaders. Up Against the Wall for its flavorful collection of the best underground clothing labels.

Traveling to far places to present myself to the world through art.

The dumbest thing you've ever done
Tried to freestyle in public. (Uggh)

I see the person youve grown to be, but not who you were before..what was it that changed your life to get where you are now?
Earlier in my life I lived without a care. Huge tomboy. Started being labeled gay.. So I ended up femming it up. I fell in love in 2007. That ended out of midair in 2008. The emotional time I had bombed me. I hit rock bottom. And I developed a stronger relationship with God. He helped me to get out of it. He helped me get here. I learned how to put Him myself and family first.

I want to give a shout out to all reading this! I want to give a shout out to all my New York kids, world travelers and God! Oh and I cannot forget about the sidekick Vince!

LDRS of the

of the new school.

airwaves: chicago juke music, jus because i feel like rollin that way.

Today's first CC is that of probably one of THEE coolest guys ever, Young Vic, of LDRS Chicago. i happened upon Vic when i was on my light-skinned twin, Henri's facecrack page and i was IMMEDIATELY captivated by the tattoos that cover this mans body, there was just so much to see lol, it was like reading a book and watching a movie at the same time, far too much for the human senses but sooo lovely at the same time. SO after (immediately) adding him, i did a little background research, stopped by the Leaders 1354 website, and realized that i am MISSING OUT on life in Chicago so therefore ill be planning a visit some time in May or June to join the festivities, so without further ado, here's Vic's Cab Confessional that he so GRACIOUSLY did WEEKS ago for me haha, i cant wait to see you all in the city of wind, viewers be sure to check out the LDRS website HERE, and pick up some merchandise...im hoping for a free t-shirt if i give a really good shout out....did it work Vic? :)

Who are your top 3 influences fashionwise?
HARD QUESTION BECAUSE I AM INFLUENCED BY ALL THE SH-- AROUND ME..
MY FAVORITE DESIGNERS ARE RAF SIMONS, YOJI YAMAMOTO, KRIS VAN ASSCHE(DIOR HOMME), MARC JACOBS, NIGO AND JEREMY SCOTT I LIKE THEIR ABILITY TO PUT THE FUN BACK IN FASHION AND THEIR CONCEPT BASED COLLECTION THAT AT TIMES IT SEEMS AS IF THEY ARE MAKING COSTUMES...BUT AS FAR AS INFLUENCE I PEOPLE WATCH AND FROM THAT I GAIN A UNDERSTANDING OF FASHION AND FUNCTIONALITY..I THINK A PERSON SHOULD ALWAYS BE COMFORTABLE IN WHAT THEY WEAR AND NOT BE COMFORTABLE BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU WEAR THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE.
How about musically?
MUSICALLY BIGGIE IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE . HE JUST MADE RAP AN ART AND COULD TELL A STORY THAT ALWAYS PUT YOU IN THE ROOM WITH HIM...TRIBE CALLED QUEST , OUTKAST AND WUTANG THE BEST GROUPS OF ALL TIME...IT IS TOO MUCH TO LIST HEAR ME DJ AND FIND OUT ALL THE STUFF I LIKE

He Finally..

Confessed. and it's beautifully THOROUGH.

Who are you?
That’s still being written. What? Would you rather I lie to you?

Who are your top 3 influences fashion-wise?
The DANDIEST old men on my block from way back. Whether it was a trip to the corner store or a Sunday dinner after church, these men never went out without a suit or a hat. There was never a day where they would succumb to what I call “casualessness” (a hybrid of “casual” and “carelessness”) which is something a lot of people now-a-days are guilty of. I’ll never forget what “Old Man Charlie” told me one day while he was on his way into town: “[The outfit] ain’t right if you not gliding on the pavement.” In retrospect, that taught me the importance of swagger in fashion—bringing life to the clothes. VK Nagrani, designer “Ovadafût Company” Known affectionately within the industry as “The Philosopher,” V.K. taught me to look at clothes in more holistic terms. Some people have this lofty dream that fashion will change the world or something close to that effect, but when we place fashion in a more realistic view, it’s merely another way for us to tell our story/perspective to the world. Soccer Players, particularly from Latin America. The same finesse that Latin players are known for (versus the more rugged European approach) carries over into their clothes as well. Adidas Sambas. Beanies. A wild assortment of bracelets adorning the wrist. The cool leather necklace. Proper proportion (especially for the shorts). All of these elements are subtly placed into their lifestyle off the field. It’s as if they are literally placing their hearts (passion for the game) on their sleeves, or neck, or chest, or feet, for the entire world to see. It’s that concept that I carry with me everyday when I get dressed.

How about musically?
Santana. Miles Davis. Pete Rock & CL Smooth

Favorite place(s) to shop locally?
Sportscape! A local sneaker boutique with the ILLEST sneakers available in southwestern Connecticut!! And being from Connecticut, I have to make the occasional trips to Vineyard Vines, Rugby, and J. Crew for the preppy purchases of fresh polo shirts, boat shoes, and Nantucket-braided bracelets.

Shoes you're wearing right now:
My very favorite chocolate brown saddle shoes, accented nicely with my “dark blue” socks (it’s not navy, I swear, I just can’t think of a better way to describe it).

Bracelet or watch?
Check it: BOTH. I enjoy the idea of taking two completely contrasting elements and placing them together to form a synthesis. You’ve got the sleek modern lines of a well-made watch and the very organic appeal of a rugged bracelet from some fabric or rope wrapped closely around the watch and, done correctly, I think it makes sense.

Necklace or scarf?
The scarf is my pocket square. It’s been my thing ever since I watched “Alfie” (2004) with Jude Law in it. I’ve always been a sucker for very deep, rich, colored scarves like burgundy, gray, and hunter green (black and navy, of course, are in the mix as well). Most of all, I love the relaxed OR distinguished effect it can create depending upon the way you wrap it. If you have trouble picturing what I’m talking about, just imagine that now-famous photo with Miles Davis sitting at the piano with his head on his left hand and looking creatively stuck during a session in the studio. The way that scarf sits on him absolutely helps to create that picture.

Prince or Michael Jackson:
I vote for Prince because of his self-restraint with not only his music, but his credibility. If Prince were to come out with material today (and he has), I think you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who thought that was a bad idea. If Michael were to come out with material, everyone is like, “WHY bother!?” because he just went so far left field that we lost our connection to him. Prince and his music will always be relevant and there is a growth in creative genius that we can chart through the years and appreciate that growth. We appreciate Michael for the music and inspiration he gave to the artists who followed afterward, but musically I can’t see him making something without the help of a big name producer. That said, both are amazing artists and created such meaningful work, but since this is a matter of preference, I’m going with Prince.

Dream job?
It’d definitely be Anthony Bourdain’s job (obvious shout out). The man gets paid to travel around the world, talk to real people, drinks strong spirits, eat their food, and tell other people of his experience. Welcome to the good life

Last movie you watched:
The Wrestler (2008) What a painful, gut-wrenching story, right? It’s been two weeks already and yet the impact of that movie still lingers with me.

Favorite blog(s)/websites to browse:
a) Lifestyle Blogs:
a. The Real Assanova blog – Most people will likely not understand this blog because of the writer’s level of candor and frat-boy humor. They’ll likely dismiss it as a “how to get laid” guide for computer nerds or something. This is more than just a “seduction” blog; this is one man’s daily search (among his other priorities in life) to inject romantic and erotic love (at times only erotic love) back into modern-day society. We’ve lost this polarity of the sexes and with that, the courtship process has shifted into a more level-playing field and too many men are operating on failed out-dated methods. Today’s women absolutely want to be gamed, they just want it done in the right way that respects our progression in time. And even if you’re not an idealist about it all, his stories are HILARIOUS.

b) Celebrity Blogs:
a. The Mark Cuban blog – Even if you’re not a finance or technology fan, you have to respect Cuban’s thought-process. He talks, people listen to him. Why exactly? I think it’s because he’s determined to do this on his own terms.
b. The Kanye West Universecity blog— there is so much depth to Kanye that it’s evident even in his sometimes impersonal entry posts. The blog is picture happy with little text included (except when he’s ranting off about something that pissed him off), but it works for him; you see how his mind works. And it’s a mind worth watching…

c) Fashion Blogs:
a. Stockholm Street Style blog
b. The Sartorialist blog
c. Lateboots blog

Food:
a. Gourmet Magazine. Simply put, this is food porn at its best! Of course, after the culinary boner subsides, I do manage to find inspiration in the content away from the pictures.

Song stuck in your head right now?
Milli Vanilli’s “Blame it on the Rain” (and ONLY the chorus, at that). Prometheus himself probably couldn’t steal it out of my head…[sigh]

If you could have a comeback album from any artist...who would it be?
The Fugees used to be number one on that list and we all know what happened to that comeback attempt in 2005. Do pardon the hint of cynicism but I’ll just appreciate my #2 on the list for what they did so as not to jinx them in anyway…

The first concert you ever went to:
Britney Spears, who was on tour for her first album. Listen, I was 13 years old and had just discovered breasts and ovaries at that awkward pubescent time. Never mind that I was whoring my masculinity, this was my chance to see beautiful 18 year old Britney Spears in person, and damn it, I went for it…

The dumbest thing you've ever done:
playing it safe for the majority of my life. Luckily, God introduced me to myself through a series of events in 2007 & 2008 and now there is a self-awareness to my day-to-day lifestyle that I think has contributed to me thinking more vertically in terms of recognizing potential opportunities and seeing those choices in front of me that either help or hinder my chances to those opportunities. That isn’t to say that I’m some opportunist because I don’t look at people as only a means to an end. All I’m saying is that when you can see life more clearly beyond just the old saying of “same stuff, different day” then there is more of an excitement to each day because your frame of thinking is rooted in more holistic terms rather than what is only in front of you. You simply begin to enjoy the journey more because you aren’t fixated only on chasing the temporary highs of life.

The best decision you ever made:
I definitely answered that above. I see the person you’ve grown to be, but not who you were before what was it that changed your life to get where you are now? …again see the dumbest thing ever comment above. (loL)

Go ahead...give a few shout outs
Certainly I want to give a shout out to all my sisters, Lupita, Eddie B, el “Sin Condon” Crew (HOLLA!), Andrew Cruz, and last but not least, to the people who inspire me to do better everyday. People talk so passionately about others who abuse power in high places, but many fail to see the little moments in life where we have a measure of power that impacts someone else's day either negatively or positively depending upon the choices we make at any particular moment. Here’s to the ones who make the right choice even when virtue is less convenient.

Finally....last famous words
There’s a scene in the movie “Phenomenon” (1996) between “Doc” (Robert Duvall) and “George Malley” (John Travolta) that I think best illustrates my point. Doc: George, how did you manage to get your pressure to come down? George Malley: Oh... I found my pace. Simple thing really. Hard to explain. That scene always reminds me of the fact that no matter what, we all have to figure this thing out on our own. You can’t have personal freedom if someone does the work for you—freedom requires that you liberate yourself. The natural question for some people is “how?” I blame this culture of “how to” lists and books that give people too much dependency on everything but their own thought-process.
People can articulate how they made it but the story really only makes perfect sense to them.
Your story is written, it’s just up to you to write it.

ciao, sal

I see the person youve grown to be, but not who you were before..what was it that changed your life to get where you are now?
I learned to not live by stereotypes. Life is not about a four walls (or a box). EXPLORE! I'm a man, but that doesn't mean i'm not allowed a few weak moments. I'm african american, but that doesn't mean I'm uneducated. I'm 6'2, and I hate basketball! (you get the idea). Something literally just clicked in my brain and said "you're much bigger than the space you're living in".

Who are your top 3 influences fashionwise?
Well I definitely would say that my friends are a band of well styled maniacs, i draw inspiration from them all the time. Then its Karl Lagerfeld, Galliano, and McQueen are straight fools with it.

How about musically?
I dont have specific artists that influence me directly. But I like people that are heavyweight lyricists and that push the envelope with content. Its more like genres and places for me. Authentic music from random places is very influential to me.

Favorite place(s) to shop locally?
Psshhh who shops these days....I like this small little vintage shop in pilsen (chicago neighborhood), not thrift vintage. Fool proof places with variety like my old job French Connection, or Barney's is always a plus.
